Cloudflare Zero Trust Consultant
Identity-based access for admin panels, staging and internal apps
Who this is for
- Teams with exposed admin panels or dashboards
- Stores and SaaS with staging environments
- Agencies managing many client logins
- Businesses onboarding contractors safely
Capabilities
What a Cloudflare Zero Trust consultant covers
Cloudflare Access, identity, SSO and least privilege — applied to the specific surfaces that need protecting, not blanket network access.
Cloudflare Access policies
Per-application access rules in front of admin panels, dashboards, internal tools and staging — granted by identity, not by network location.
Identity-based access
Who someone is decides what they reach. Access is tied to a verified user and device posture, not a shared IP allow-list that ages badly.
SSO integration
Connect Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) or GitHub as your identity provider so logins follow your existing accounts and MFA.
Secure admin panels
Put wp-admin, /admin, Magento backend, custom CMS and ops dashboards behind an identity check before any login form is even reachable.
Staging & internal apps
Lock pre-production, internal apps and tooling so only your team and named collaborators can open them — and nobody else can index or probe them.
SSH & RDP, where applicable
Where your origin and use case fit, broker SSH and RDP through Cloudflare so remote admin access runs over identity-aware tunnels, not exposed ports.
Least-privilege design
Scope each policy to the smallest group that genuinely needs it, with separate rules for staff, contractors and agency partners.
Contractor & agency access
Grant time-boxed, revocable access to external collaborators using their own email or SSO — and remove it the moment an engagement ends.
Measured VPN alternative
For selected internal web apps and admin surfaces, Access can replace a clunky VPN. We tell you honestly where it does, and where a VPN still wins.
Problems we solve
The access gaps that bring teams to Zero Trust
Admin login exposed to the world
Your /admin or wp-login sits on the open internet, taking constant brute-force and credential-stuffing attempts. Access puts identity in front of it.
Staging indexed or probed
Pre-production environments leak code, data and unfinished features. We gate them so only authenticated people can reach them.
Shared VPN credentials
One VPN account passed around the team means no real accountability. Identity-based access ties every session to a named person.
Contractor access never revoked
Old agency and freelancer logins linger for months. Per-user policies make granting and removing access fast and auditable.
Flat, all-or-nothing access
Everyone who gets in can reach everything. Least-privilege policies scope each app to the group that actually needs it.
Exposed SSH / RDP ports
Open management ports invite scanning and attack. Where applicable, we broker remote admin through identity-aware Cloudflare tunnels.
Cloudflare Access
What is Cloudflare Access and how does it secure admin panels?
Cloudflare Access sits in front of an application and checks who you are before the app — or its login form — is ever reachable. Instead of exposing wp-admin, a custom CMS or an ops dashboard to the whole internet, only people who pass an identity check from your chosen provider get through.
That single change removes a huge amount of background noise: brute-force attempts, credential stuffing and automated probing hit the identity wall, not your login. We design the policies, connect your identity provider and roll changes out carefully so no legitimate user is locked out.
What Access gives you
- Per-application policies, not network-wide access
- Identity checked before the login page loads
- Works for admin panels, dashboards and internal tools
- Staged rollout so real users are never locked out
VPN alternative
Is Cloudflare Access a real VPN replacement?
For selected use cases, yes — and we are deliberately measured about it. For internal web apps, admin surfaces and dashboards, identity-based Access is often simpler, faster and safer than a traditional VPN: there is no client to install, access is granted per app, and every session ties back to a named person.
But Access is not a universal VPN replacement. Some legacy protocols, thick-client software and broad network-level needs are still better served by a VPN or by Cloudflare’s tunnel-based network access. We map your actual use cases and tell you honestly which belong on Access and which do not.
Where Access fits
- Great fit: internal web apps & admin panels
- No VPN client to install or maintain
- Honest about where a VPN still wins
- Tunnel-based options for deeper network needs
Identity & SSO
Identity-based access with the SSO you already use
Access reuses your existing accounts and MFA instead of creating another password to manage.
Google Workspace
Sign in with the Google accounts your team already uses, carrying over your existing groups and two-factor authentication.
Microsoft Entra ID
Connect Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) so Access follows your directory, conditional access and corporate MFA policies.
GitHub
Ideal for engineering teams: gate staging, internal tools and dashboards behind GitHub identity and organisation membership.
Use cases
Contractors, agencies and internal apps
Identity-based access shines when many different people need different, time-limited access to different things.
Contractors & freelancers
- Grant access using their own email or SSO identity
- Scope each person to only the apps they need
- Revoke instantly when an engagement ends
- No shared logins or passed-around credentials
Agencies managing client stacks
- Separate policies per client and per environment
- Onboard and offboard team members in minutes
- Keep staging and admin invisible to outsiders
- Pair with white-label support for client work
Internal apps & dashboards
- Gate ops tools, BI dashboards and admin UIs
- Tie every session to a verified user identity
- Apply least privilege across teams
- Remove apps from public discovery and probing
Staging & pre-production
- Stop staging from being indexed or scraped
- Protect unfinished features and test data
- Share preview access with named reviewers only
- Keep parity with production access rules
Scope
What is and isn’t included
Clear boundaries from the start, so expectations stay honest.
What is included
- Cloudflare Access policy design and rollout
- Identity provider / SSO integration (Google, Microsoft, GitHub)
- Least-privilege policies for staff, contractors and agencies
- Admin panel, staging and internal app gating
- SSH / RDP brokering through Cloudflare where applicable
- Documentation and a clear access model you can run
What is not included
- Application code development or bug fixes
- Identity provider licensing or directory administration
- Endpoint device management (MDM/EDR) deployment
- Server, hosting or database administration
- Full enterprise incident response and forensics
When you need this
- Your admin login is exposed and under constant attack
- Staging environments are reachable by anyone with the URL
- You share VPN or admin credentials across the team
- Contractors and agencies need scoped, revocable access
- You want least privilege without a heavy VPN to manage
When Cloudflare is not enough
Cloudflare Access is one strong layer for access control. It does not replace:
- Secure development, code review and timely patching of your application and plugins.
- Backups, disaster recovery and a tested restore process.
- A dedicated anti-fraud, chargeback or payment-risk platform.
- Hosting, database administration and origin server maintenance.
- Full incident response and forensics for large or regulated enterprises.

How this project is scoped — no hourly meter
Fixed scope, fixed timeline — priced by deliverable against an agreed Statement of Work, not by an hourly meter. Typically 2–4 weeks, delivered remotely.
What's included
- Discovery & kick-off call to confirm goals and scope
- Architecture & configuration review
- Cloudflare setup for the agreed scope: DNS, SSL/TLS, WAF baseline, caching/performance and the products in your plan
- Validation and a supervised go-live
- Handover pack: runbook, configuration documentation and a team walkthrough
- A 14-day post-go-live support window for fixes to what we configured
Not included (quoted separately)
- Non-Cloudflare work (application/backend changes, third-party security tools)
- Additional domains/zones beyond the agreed scope
- Ongoing monthly management (that is a Care plan)
- Anything not in the Statement of Work — handled as a separately quoted change order
Indicative “from” prices are a starting point. Your final price is confirmed in a written proposal after a free scoping call, and depends on the number of zones, the Cloudflare products in scope and environment complexity.
